Champion of the INS
For the 16th World Congress of the International Neuromodulation Society (INS) in 2024, the Executive Officers instituted a perpetual award, the Champion of the INS Award, to be bestowed on an individual who, over a long period of time, has provided outstanding individual, institutional, regional and INS support for neuromodulation.
2024 - Fabian Piedimonte, MD It is an honour to announce that the inaugural recipient of this award is Professor Fabian Piedimonte of Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Prof. Piedimonte is the director of the CENIT Foundation for Research in Neurosciences and has been on the faculty as a lecturer at the School of Medicine of the University of Buenos Aires for almost 40 years, focusing his research and educational activities on treatments for diseases such as movement disorders, Parkinson's disease, chronic pain, cancer, epilepsy, spasticity, psychiatric disorders and pathologies of the spinal cord.
Prof. Piedimonte has dedicated the last 30 years of his life to not only providing neuromodulation access to his birth country but has truly championed the support and growth of neuromodulation in Latin America, from Mexico to Tierra del Fuego. He has mentored and supported an entire generation of neuromodulators and has been tireless and giving of his time in teaching and lecturing. His passion to "lift all boats" has made him a keenly sought speaker and mentor.
He has left a lasting legacy on the neuromodulation organisations and societies in Latin America and beyond, dedicating multiple decades in service as founding President of the Argentinean Neuromodulation Society, Treasurer and Regional Director-at-Large of the INS, Scientific Co-Chair of the 2024 INS Congress in Barcelona, and organizer of the Iberoamerican Neuromodulation Conferences, to name a few. He has championed both the INS and neuromodulation as his life's work, and we are deeply grateful to his support of the Society and the field.
We salute Fabian Piedimonte as a true Champion of the INS.
Dr. Fabian Piedimonte
